Grassello Calce is naturally mould and algae resistant.
To enhance the durability, a coat of a coarser (white) decorative plaster such as Marmorino can be applied as a base coat (with a possible anti-crack coat of Colbeton underneath). It’s important to mention that although the act of putting polished plaster on the wall is relatively easy, achieving the required ‘marble-like’ effect needs significant training.
Once applied, the product-through decarbonisation-crystallizes and turns back into limestone, essentially turning the feature into a real stone wall!
Q: I
s Grassello di Calce waterproof? Can it be applied in wet rooms or shower cubicles?
A: Yes, it can be, but first a thicker coat of another lime-based plaster like Travertino or Marmorino should be applied and it must be protected with a sealer and a sealant. Please take note that smooth finishes are naturally easier to maintain than textured ones and that contact will water will diminish the glossiness and protectors have to be re-applied time to time. For more information please contact our sales team.
·
Q: Can you put Grassello di Calce over tiles?
A: Before applying this product, you should ensure that the substrate is a firm, true surface without movement. A flexible coating with mesh should be applied on top of tiles, followed by a stronger key coat of another lime-based plaster like Travertino or Marmorino before application can start.
·
Q: Can Grassello di Calce be applied on floors?
A: No, it can’t. Currently only products marked as ‘For floors’, using the correct method and system can be used for that purpose.
·
Q: How durable is Grassello di Calce? Is it scratchproof?
A: All mineral-based plasters like Marmorino Classico harden chemically, meaning it turns into limestone in about 2 years. On the other hand, it only acts as a decorative coating and should be protected for commercial and industrial projects. If you are looking for enhanced durability, please contact our sales team.
·
Q: How accurate are your colours?
A: As we employ industrial colouring methods, and because of the experience of our technicians our standard colour deviation for Grassello di Calce is less than 6.5 DeltaE, meaning there is only a small difference between batches and coloured products. To ensure accurate final colour, please purchase a tester pot and consult with your specialist as application methods and protectors can significantly affect the colour and the final look! Some lighter colours need to be purchased in larger quantities, because of the small amount of colourants involved.
·
Q: How resistant are the colours?
A: Due to the fact that the pigments are inserted into the Grassello di Calce, it has exceptional colour resistance. Only a Marmorino with dark colours, applied externally might lighten a bit over time.
·
Q: Do I really need a primer? Is PVA suitable as a primer?
A: PVA and other glues were not devised for coatings of these kinds and generally can not ensure proper bonding and durability. Finishes applied without the proper primers might deteriorate very quickly. The primers supplied by us ensure resistance, bonding and durability; finishes applied with the proper system can last dozens of years!
.
Q: What do we have to do if one day we want to re-do the wall?
A: This poses no problem, Grassello di Calce should only be lightly sanded and primed. Any texture should be covered with fillers or gypsum plaster.
·
Q: Do I need a specialist to apply these finishes?
A: For guidance, please see the ‘application difficulty’ markers. It’s highly recommended to contact a specialist or get training if the application difficulty is greater than 3. For courses and specialists in your area please contact our sales team.
·
